Hi everyone! I'm new to the forums although I have browsed through all of the different threads numerous times in the past couple months.....To give everyone a little bit of background I am a 22 year old male with no arrests, no drug use whatsoever, etc who is married with a 2 year old son. I graduated HS with my diploma in 2007 and since then have taken some classes at my local community college although my grades have been less than stellar due to me not really taking college very seriously. I am 5'9 and currently weigh 280 lbs and I know to join the military I would need to get down to at least 186 but my target weight loss goal is 180 lbs which I am more than willing to put in the work to accomplish....My first choice would be the Air Force but i'm a little worried from browsing the forums that there may not be many jobs opening up any time soon.....My second choice would be the Navy and no matter which branch I would like to do broadcast journalism but I am open to different jobs. Would you guys suggest I talk to a recruiter from each branch now or wait until I am near my weight loss goal? Thanks in advance guys.

Talk to recruiters about the rating you wish to enter. Onboard Navy ships, we have closed circuit television which includes nightly news broadcast put on by crew members. They also create a ship's newsletter and write up press/news release on some shipboard operations for families or for general press release.
Your choice of job in the military will make it more difficult for you get accepted.
