My daughter, 15, is thinking of military service after high school. Refuses to think of college right now, hope she changes her mind. But military service may be good for her, would have been for me.
She does not understand that she will have to do at least moderately well in school to be qualified. Can any of you military men or women tell me of a good website to get sample entrance exams? I hope seeing the exams may stimulate her thinking. She had a friend last year that flunked a naval entrance exam & gave up on it rather than study & try again. She understands that was a
mistake for the friend.
Thanks for any assistance & thanks for your service to our nation.
ASVAB study guides are readily and commercially available at Barnes and Noble, Amazon.com, ect. There are also a ton of resources, just google "ASVAB practice test" or "ASVAB preparation."
Her High school grades don't matter, and have no bearing on anything, neither do the SAT or ACT.
Does she want to do Army? Or Navy? Air Force? Even at her young age, she could go talk to a recruiter, to ask questions, and they would be able to give her the best information.
At her age no recruiter will give her the time of the day, except if she catches one at a table set up at her school or a career fair where they are a captive audience.
Have her sign up for the ASVAB at her school. She can take it as a 10th grader, though it won't count for enlistment. If you DM me her high school I can tell you exactly when or even if they are taking the ASVAB.
Also take her to the NC State fair next month, all of the branches recruiters will be their and it's one of those places where they will be a captive audience.
High School grades (esp. math) can matter for certain Navy programs.
I do not believe so. If you did well in high school you may do well on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) scores. But I do not believe any US military branch will accept any high school math class score for a program.
The Navy's exam for the Nuclear program is very tough. Don't know if they've opened that rating to women. For that, you'd need some good math, trig, and physics. When I took it, it was a timed test. Some military job ratings require certain level scores on the ASVAB as well as additional knowledge test.
