Here's the real deal.
Those who serve are nothing more and nothing less than tools for politicians. WE are the pawns. Elected reps know absolutely nothing about honor and I doubt that they ever will. Soldiers, Marines, sailors and Airmen are pawns. Niether part gives a rats azz how many are killed other than the potential for bad press.
To act shocked that they are sent in to harms way in a country that has very little offensive capability and pose a relatively minor threat should shock no one.
We impose nearly impossible rules of engagement and then act shocked when on occasion some snap.
Here is an idea. If you go to war you go to win, you go to destroy your enemy. You break their collective will to fight. To go there and do less invites Vietnam like results. You can't invade a country and expect to make friends.

I normally watch CBS news and they usually report if there is a death in Afghanistan, and they also have a tribute at the end of the week to any soldiers that were killed during the week.

They also have this story on their site.

I would like to see our troops come home.

Up in my neck of the woods the public, vocal anti-war protesters disappeared around the latter part of January '09.

Guess the MSM figured the war was over, too.

You want to start talking numbers? We can talk numbers.

100+ Americans are killed in auto accidents every day (4 every hour).
40 Americans are murdered every day.
550 Americans are raped every day (22 every hour, about every two-three minutes).
90 Americans kill themselves every day.

There are specific, all-bad causes for the problems above that our society should be addressing.

Yet you're decrying the 1 American a day killed fighting for a cause, a cause they chose to support and possibly die for. You don't possibly have an agenda, do you?

I don't have any agenda other than bringing attention to the futility of the war! and my tax dollars going down the hole.

Are you kidding me? Each "1" of these individuals are human beings: someone's son, daughter, brother, sister, mother, father, friend...

What are they dying for? Explain this "cause". (No, really, please don't. I can't bear the rationalizations for this insanity.)

As someone else posted, they are pawns. It is insane. Every day I read about more dying and cringe. It makes me physically ill to think about it.

And now Netanyahu is trying to goad the US into fighting another war for him. Oh joy, here we go again.

Our "government" is frankly a war-mongering entity, fueled by profit-seeking stakeholders. It's disgusting.

The article rightfully questions our 'numbness'.

I think we Americans don't care anymore about war fatalities.
Please do not put me, my family, my friends and other military related people in the same category...

So that's what you want to see? Sorry, some have respect for the dead.

No, It is not being hidden. The information has always been made public. You can read it online, you can subscribe to the data. Perhaps you did not know where to get the information.

I’m not sure how to take people that champion military personnel past or present. With few exceptions, the lion’s share of our wars are unjust, unwarranted, and often Unconstitutional. Military people do not keep me safe, they don’t protect my freedoms, and a boatload of other things people who’ve drank the kool-aide parrot. As somebody before me has pointed out, the military is a tool that furthers some nefarious political agenda. It’s not here to “Protect your freedoms.” This is similar to the police myth, “To serve and protect.” It’s nothing more than propaganda. The nasty thing about propaganda is that there’s usually some seedy reason why the powers that be are dressing it up in disguise.

Here’s how I support our troops. I buy “Made in the USA” when I can, so the troops have a job to return to. I would like to see our defense spending cut way down. Starting at 50% is good, 75% would probably be better. Hence, we’d take the bite out of our government sword. Our government wields our military around like a five-year-old boy who’s just found his father’s pistol and is drunk with power. Since I’m against our defense spending and use of force, I am supporting our troops by not having them go into harms way.

Just look at American history, and one can see that our government is an evil warring imperialistic one. Since 1775, we’ve not gone one decade without sending our troops someplace to fight, loose their lives, and it’s all in the name of big dollars. End the madness!

Let's not forget warnings from respected people about supporting large standing armies:
http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2011/...ng-armies.html

Also, having blind respect for the military is a bit myopic in my opinion. Have we forgotten what the military did at Kent State, disarming law abiding citizens during Katrina, and MacAurther set his troops on "The Bonus Army," killing a few of the WWI veterans. The American military has been used against Americans throughout history. It's not the military's fault per say, the culpability lies with the government, but unfortunately for us, the military serves the government.
