I know that being in the forces is serious business but it's not all doom and gloom. Many if not all of us have had times where we seriously thought that we'd never see/hear/read something as funny ever again while we were in.

If there is something then maybe share it. Anything no matter how loosley connected will do, things from Youtube or articles, whatever... stuff that makes you smile.

Somewhere there is a clip of 1st Batt. The Parachute Reg't doing this in Helmand. I've sent out some emails this morning trying to track it down. When/if I get it i'll post it here.

hale yes it can be fun.

my friends back home couldnt afford busfare downtown

but there i was spending winter in acapulco, st. thomas, curacao.

doing "fish stops" for 150lb halibut off of kodiak island alaska

my first ship was a floating home for wayward sailors they didnt care how you comported yourself as long as you worked. we use to go "bow jumping", stand as far forward on the bow as you dare and wait for bow to hit the lip of the wave then launch yourself up into the air. if you timed it right you'd be about 10 feet above deck and it sent your guts up out your ears. and this is northern california coast, swell dont get much bigger.

Initially being in the military is fun, because we were all young back then and didn't know any better what was good for us, where most were just out of High School and anticipating a new life in the military to learn a skill!
The first 4 years of enlistment went by so fast and before the end of the 2nd enlistment was the making of the final decision if one is going to make the military a career or not! It took me 12 years before I made the decision to get out, but I transitioned into a Reserve Unit to build up points for retirement and began working for Civil Service until I retired before I was 55 yrs old. Everything worked out in the end! I was happy with my decision and the 12 yrs of my active duty service helped in the computation of my Civil Service pension and my USAF Reserve pay at age 60!
I was just burnt out at the 30 year mark of my career and just wanted out of the "Human Rat Race" and move overseas to a laid back carefree lifestyle, which we did and we're still here enjoying our retirement thanks to Uncle Sam!

Most of my family is military. Military life may be stressful, it may be scary, but it is rarely boring, and I think the reason is that there are so many people in the military with a sense of humor! Plus the camaraderie brings out the humor in people.

This is one of my favorite clips. Anyone who has been stuck at a duty station from hell can relate!

(Warning - extremely colorful language - like you would hear in just about any military setting!)

Since my son in law and daughter are stationed at Barksdale, we have laughed through this one several times!

I had great times while I was in the navy and the pits sometimes....

But I'll never trade that time of my life for *anything*

Really not much fun, still glad to have done it though.

I think we were all high and drunk most of the time so maybe forgot some fun parts.... Oh wait the stripper from the bar in Killeen was kinda fun.
