I have never, ever, ever witnessed a spouse expecting or demanding to be saluted. Not calling anybody liars, but it's CERTAINLY nothing I have ever personally witnessed. Everyone I know would look at you like you had three heads such a bizarre thing unfolded.
What? You would only salute officers with STEM-related degrees? Okay.
What does that have to do with alleged entitlement to special treatment among military spouses?
Agree. Officers are supposed to get saluted. That was a lack of professionalism on your part. And like TabulaRasa said, that has nothing to do with a spouse requesting to be saluted.

Then you've never stood gate guard duty. I remember as a junior enlisted Sailor standing gate guard duty at NAS Millington TN in the late 80's being constantly beat-up by dependents for not getting a salute when they showed me their dependent ID card indicating they were a dependent of an officer. Many of them thought that because we saluted a vehicle with a blue sticker (only because we don't know if the person driving it is the officer themselves) that they were in fact due a salute.
Most wives I'd just salute to get them to shut up and leave but I remember this one teenage kid with long hair coming through the gate with his buddies and demanding I salute him. I told him to move along and when he started to get out of his car I put my hand on the grip of my .45 and told him he needed to stay in his car and get moving. His buddies all started yelling at him to knock it off and get out of there. After that he decided a salute wasn't worth sticking around for and left.
Never understood the salute the car thing, and never did it.
As for wives, yea, ran into a few who thought they had some sort of power or something, I was never shy to enforce the rules with them, even to the point of apprehending someone's wife with a take down and cuffing; she decided she could walk around the area without an escort, refused commands in a rude manner, etc. I turned her over the the base police.
Then you have the wives that make threats about your job and how they are going to get you int trouble, love those types. Always over the most trivial issues like not letting them on base during a lock down, or saying they need a new ID or will not let on base next time, not use cell phone while getting gas, not leave bags unattended (got to watch them blow one up once), etc.
On the flip side, ran into more than a few very nice wives, the majority I will say have no issues, and a minor few will go out of their way to assist you, like bringing a warm drink on a cold day, bring a bunch of snacks down during a holiday duty day, bring a nice bunch of Thanksgiving leftovers to your post, and provide a lot of support for wives who are new to the military world.
I just wanted to say that most of the Army wives that I've known are truly wonderful, the lifers especially, they are a part of the FRG and many other various helpful programs out there with their volunteered services not to mention being a wife and mother running around all day with the kids, priceless service to young Army couples, I say thank you to all. The Army wives who run around thinking they are above everything else, I wouldn't know, my friends are too busy for that nonsense. Thank you all.

I'm guessing now that they've done away with auto stickers, this is much less of an issue. No vehicles are saluted, here.

I ALWAYS do this. Good to know it's appreciated. I just figured I was being looked on as the cheesy new wife.
