I am in the beginning process of a branch transfer from a special duty branch. I got mildly chewed out because I do not know how to go about the process from reading the regs and doing research.

Most of what I have read is difficult to understand, but apparently I am not supposed to ask for clarification. So I turn to you all, in hopes of not receiving the same treatment and getting a clear-cut response.

If I wanted to be an AG officer, could I request to be put in a Chemical unit? Basically, can an officer qualified in one branch be put in a unit without having to qualify in the unit's branch? Is that allowed?

Also, how does one go about finding a unit? I have been told networking, but is it acceptable to just ask commanders if they have an open slot for me, being that I am not branch qualified?

Any advice or guidance would really be appreciated. I am really at a loss here.

Can you clarify whether you are USA, USAR, or NG?

Overall to me, if you want to be AG then you should apply to be AG. But the reserve and guard may look at it differently

You are not branch qualified at all or not qualified in the branch you want to go to?

Not as a 1LT. Branch qual comes after your CPT Career Course and company-level command.

1LT, what is this "special duty branch" you referred to in your OP? Do you mean Branch detailed?

Both, really.
I didn't finish the qualifications for my current branch (CH) and I am not qualified in the branch I want to go to (AG).

Not branch detailed. I was CH but didn't complete all the requirements.

Or KD time.

OP,

Do you mean you have to go to another BOLC?

Yes, I have to go to another BOLC. I just need to find a unit willing to slot me and send me to BOLC.
