We were supposed to wear those yellow foam earplugs and then our headset. And I certainly did. Religiously. The ones who skipped the earplugs now have hearing loss. A bunch of us meet on a regular basis and most of them wear hearing aids. Now I'm really glad I was so conscientious about using double protection.
Excellent choice. I agree with you. When I flew on the 130 I put those foam ones in plus the headset. Flew only 3 or 4 times over my career but my automotive trade took me to the other noise aspect. I actually only have hearing loss at the frequency of my tinnitus. Its a ***** I almost never not hear it. But the other frequencies I am good. So I get nothing for hearing loss as of now. If it gets worse I will see if I can get a higher VA rating. Sitting at 40% now and being hurt by it.
Back in 1957-60, we never saw earplugs. I worked for about two weeks ,scoreing at the 6th Army pistol matches at Ft Ord, no ear protection, lots of .45’s firing all day. We resorted to stuffing a .45 case in our ear, but it didn’t help. I don’t wear hearing aids yet, but I think I need them.
