For all we know, China may be able to destroy ICBMs before they do any damage.
They can certainly retaliate, and possibly do a lot of damage to the US.

I bet the US military has a lot of secrets, too, so who knows?

1. China just returned lunar probe from the Moon. So they do have tech.
2. They do have satellites and only they know, what is up there.
3. nuclear missiles, unlike common misconception, are not primarily designed for steam rolling civilian targets. Like cities. Forget those, who burnt two cities for political purpose. Nuclear weapon primary use is destruction of deeply protected strategic military enemy complexes - such as deep dug command centers, silos, etc. Pay no attention to Hollywood. There are five primary targets on the US territory, one of them here in WA state and, all it takes, is five hits. Done. Military US power is paralyzed.

4. And what do you think massive Chinese population here will do? Sit and look how China burns?

5. How much AI and computer tech is already embodied into the US military/economy? Anyone knows, what THAT will do? Don't need ICBMs.

Incorrect. Nukes are not penetrator weapons, the best place to be if at the blast site is underground. They actually detonate above the ground at a certain distance to maximize its damage, but by no means designed to like a bunker buster.

If you think there are only five targets in the US needed to paralyze the US military, then you pretty much know zilch about the US military.

Flight time.

Ostensibly, US missile boats are in the Pacific so that would mean about 12-15 minutes for an SLBM launch.

Possibly 8 minutes depending on the sub's actual location and the location of the target(s).

No, it absolutely will not and cannot.

Learn what Helium is and then get a mature adult to teach you the meaning of "strategic."

Interesting post. I thought I read that one Ohio class sub could destroy a continent...I didn’t in just 8 minutes.

What about the 20 or So B2 bombers....could they penetrate undetected and would they have enough power to destroy the entire mainland? Would this prevent a return strike?

When it comes to military technology, both China and Russia are just as advanced, or probably more advanced than the US.

China has been preparing for war with the US since the communists took over China in 1949. They have built over 3,000 miles of underground tunnels and have had many war exercises simulating war with the US. They have even stated what US cities they would bomb first (Seattle, San Diego, Boston, Baltimore, Norfolk--all strategic ports or naval bases). Our politicians ignored them, and Americans were busy watching sports on television and playing video games online. Everyone knows it is only a matter of time, even though our political leaders tried their best to turn them into a capitalist country by giving them all of our industry.

But before China goes to war with the US, it will bring Taiwan back into the fold. They are readying for war with Taiwan right now, in case Taiwan gives them a hard time. I just hope that whoever is in the White House at the time, has enough common sense to stay the hell out of that conflict.

We shouldn't underestimate China (or Russia for that matter).

Personnel; they have double active duty of the USA, 8 mil lion reservists to US's 800 thousand, and 385 million available for service compared to US's 73 mil.

Their navy has 2X the craft but only 2 carriers to the US 20.

China also makes it compulsory for their citizens to give 2 years to military service out of high school. The majority of Chinese have military service and are at the ready.

China has 280 nuclear warheads that could destroy a country as large as the USA. The USA has 6500.

Bombers are part of the nuclear triad, which is the land, sea, and air based platforms to deliver nuclear strikes, part of our strategic deterrent.

You would not prevent a return strike, we have about an hour to take out any real capability for a return strike, less than 30 minutes for an initial response against Guam and the US west coast. Their ICBMs are in silos underground, and they got numerous decoy ones. They have shorter range mobile platforms, capable of launching with 30 minutes and hitting up to the US west coast. Then to top it off, they have SLBMs.

An Ohio class can carry up to 24 missiles, each missile equipped with independently targeted warheads. That is a whole lot of firepower, lol.
