Register, then when called to serve your country...run to Canada like 5 or 10 thousand did in the 60 and 70s. Or get half a dozen defermints to avoid serving like Biden and Trump..

As others have said above, if you apply for a federal government job, it is one of the questions on the application. I never registered, but signed up for military service under the Delayed Enlistment Program when I was 17. I did 21+ years in the military. I have worked for the Government my entire life, except for about 3 years right after I retired from the military. Yet, each time I apply for a new Government job, I have to answer the question, which I honestly answer as "no", with an explanation of why. Now, if you lie on your application and say you registered, when in fact you didn't, I don't know if anyone actually checks or not. I suspect they probably do not. But it is never a good idea to lie on any job application, government job or not. But then again, maybe if you register you get some sort of number assigned to you that you have to put on the application; don't know since I never registered.

As an administrator in a Police Department. I always asked if they had registered. Most didn't know it was something that had to be done and So would I give them the chance to do so. Others would not register. So I would go through their files very closely and would find reason to eliminate them. I am a Viet Nam Veteran. My feeling was if you won't defend your country by at least registering for the draft, you shouldn't make a living in a Public Agency paid for by tax payers.

With the last actual draft ending in 1973, I have no idea why men still have to register, but the laws are still on the books. During the Vietnam War draft I was 2S , Student deferment while a freshman in college when they went to the lottery. I had a high enough number that I was not called up, and it went to all volunteer when I was a senior. Today there is no reason not to register, since any chance of being drafted is so low. If there was a new draft, it would be a lottery, numbers drawn publicly starting with the people age 20, then 21, 22 and so on up to age 35. In the "all volunteer" military today there are 1.4 million, slightly more than during our involvement in Afghanistan, compared to the Vietnam War when there were 3,064,760,
