First, we're not talking about women in the Continental Army, nor are we talking about women in the Red Army (which, if you recall, was invaded...a factor that often brings women into the fray when the fight has come, to all extents, to their backyards).

The US uses women in our own foreign invasion forces, a far greater use than any other nation has ever done.

But are they up there where the fighting actually is? In operations against such groups as American hating Islamist extremists getting captured by them would be hazardous to say the least for a woman combatant

If they're in fighter aircraft, if they're on tank crews, if they are in infantry patrols, then yes. We had women killed and women captured in combat in Iraq. As we increase the numbers of women in combat arms, they will be a percentage of those killed and captured.

And women have been. Since 2007, I've worn a memorial bracelet every day for 2LT Emily Perez, killed on patrol in Iraq.

Been awhile on this one. You guys aware the Army is asking and it’s in Congress to reduce Army end strength by 6% in the FY24 NDAA? That’s right, a reduction of 32,000 soldiers. Don’t have to recruit as much; what a positive. Going from 484,000 down to 452,000. Lowest level since… ever?!?

Really surprised Congress is thumbs up on this significant reduction. Maybe it’s the Army’s way of saying this is what happens when you give all the funds to Ukraine.

Default Army to reduce forces (brigades)

With the recruitment problems, the FY24 NDAA has the Army losing 33,000 off Active duty (no joke) partly because the recruitment problems. That will help funding with less soldiers to pay but fielding 31 BCTs with only 452,000 won’t cut it.

Default Why recruiting is in the tank

This is a WaPo reprint on Bloomberg because of WaPo’s pay wall.

https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/ar...rity-emergency

The article goes thru all the reasons and dispels many but says the military needs to know why recruiting is failing and that the risk is national security concern. The same old “kids can’t get qualified” has remained an issue for a decade. There are plenty of articles and interviews from 2011 and 2012 that highlights 75% are unqualified for military service. This issue is not new, time to move on to a issues.

If it's still an issue, it's still relevant.

I think that particular statistic may be misunderstood. Or maybe I just think it's often misunderstood.

I think most people understand "...75% are unqualified for military service" as meaning 75% of all American youth are unqualified for military service. It really means 75% of those who have attempted to enlist have been found to be unqualified for military service.

I would expect that a great proportion, if not most, of those who have attempted to enlist have already proven unqualified for college or the better vocational roles, and that the best qualified youth are only a minority of those attempting to enlist.

Here are some recent facts just published:

The Army and Navy will likely fall 25% short of their recruiting goal this year.
The USAF will likely fall 10% short of their recruiting goal this year.
The USMC will likely meet their recruiting goals this year.

The Marines do this:

“71% of our enlistment contracts are face-to-face contact from seeing a Marine with operational experience who is tough, tested, fit, ready to fight, who’s out there in the public square to engage with students.

Young people want what the traditional military has always provided. They don’t want to see stories how there are drag queens on Navy bases, and USAF officers who are transgendered “women”. They want to see men who have become warriors, men who are competent at the job they do, which is something they all aspire to.

Why are kids refusing Army, Navy, and USAF service?

“Influencers are not telling them to go into the military,” Adm. Mike Mullen, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told The Wall Street Journal. “Moms and dads, uncles, coaches and pastors don’t see it as a good choice.”

That’s a huge problem because nearly 4 in 5 Army recruits had a relative who served.

There is no fix to this problem until there is change at the top. Has little to do with political party, because we all know Obama and Trump were not an embarrassment to the troops. But the current guy is ridiculous. How can you lead when you can’t even speak extemporaneously?
