Combat veterans suffer from low testosterone. Three sons were in the Army. One was in Ranger and a Delta operator, one a Black Hawk mechanic, and one a Ranger and Green Beret. The first and third are both retired on disability, and one of the consequences, besides just the obvious physical ones…too numerous to mention, is low testosterone. This means that they need shots twice a week to avoid serious heart issues, among other things.

No, it’s a widespread consequence of the stress of combat, yet I had never heard of it.

Anyone who is under constant stress for a long period of time, will cause extremely high elevated cortisol levels to occur, which if not brought under control, can cause many bad things to happen to their body, up to and including an early death.

So yes, you are right, combat veterans who’s bodies can’t regulate cortisol, are at high risk for low testosterone, and a whole host of other bad outcomes too.

But really, anyone who has chronic stress can suffer from this too, doesn’t need to be a combat veteran. A teenager at school who suffers from anxiety can get this same result.

Lastly, the food you put into your body can cause all of this as well. If you are eating garbage like processed carbs, high sugar, high alcohol consumption, this can all contribute to cortisol problems.
