Guy in Navy Nuclear A school in Orlando, FL was kicked out of school and reduced in rank. Heard him telling his story at the club. "I was kicked out of school and lost a rank just for sleeping in class." What actually happened was he was repeatedly sleeping in class and on this particular day he was so drunk that he passed out in class while standing up and was still snoring when they carried him out.
Over my career, I was amazed at the number of first-termers that complained that "the Commander gave me an Article 15 for being late to work"... Sailor Dave, ya hit the nail on the head; most of those guys had a whole lotta OTHER offenses prior to the one the Commander finally hammered him for...
Guys always think the got f&*ed by someone else. One time I had a kid make muster (seemed ok at the time) but was in the wind when I came back from maintance meeting to hand out work details. a search of the hanger found him passed out on the sh&^ter. Of course I was the Ahole for haveing him get a fitness for duty check up! Never mind that it resulting in him going to drydock and being put on antabuse....
Yeah, about a month ago, my division got a new person. We began this ASW team trainer school at the time he checked onboard, so we didn't have to be there until 0800. His second day there he was more than an hour and a half late. I warned him not to make lateness a habit. Unfortunately, he seems to have done just that - made lateness a habit. He doesn't think it's a big deal. The icing on the cake was two duty days ago, when he relieved me an hour late, claiming he didn't know what time he was supposed to be there, and in boot camp they relieved the watch a half-hour early... Seriously, how dumb did he thing we were.
When it comes to getting busted in the military, it's almost always more than the initial charge. One guy claimed he got kicked out for getting into an argument with his first class petty officer in Deck dept. This guy started off in engineering as a fireman. He was busted down to fireman apprentence when he was found in possession of several different people's clothes,...including underware. He could have claimed klepto and gotten treatment but he didn't. For his safety and ours, he was moved to deck dept. He did get into an argument with his first class but he also pulled a knife on the first class. It happened to be the first class petty officer's personally engraved knife that the guy had stolen. Another search of his locker turned up more items he'd stolen from deck dept. While restricted to the ship, his wife cheated on him with his best friend and told him she was leaving him. He said, "I just can't get a break". Master At Arms sent two officers with him when it was time to leave the ship. They witnesses deck dept help him pack his bag and as he went up the ladder, the weight of the bag caused him to fall back down the stairs. The two MAAs were TAD from Deck Dept and from Engineering Dept. Unofficially, everyone got a hit or two on him.
