I appologize for my ignorance on the subject, but if you opt for tricare prime, what is the amount paid?

I am retired, I think we pay $350 per year and $12 co-pay for most doctor visits. We get almost all our prescriptions for free through a local military hospital.

Sorry I do not know all the details, that is what my wife wanted and I said "OK"

Tricare has had three levels of tiers of plans.

The highest tier is Tricare Prime which locks you in with a PCP, and costs roughly $350/year.

The lowest is Tricare Standard is leaves you 'open' to receive care anywhere in the nation. It is 'free' meaning it costs the servicemember nothing.

Each tier has policies for drugs which may cost you more.

This is all I could find. Not so much about tricare for life though. If anyone could find any current news on this please post.

That snopes article was good, but my concern is whith all the health care reform trying to pushed though so quickly how can we be sure this has not been included somewhere in there and once signed we will be screwed. The president has no respect for those who have served or are now serving since he has not been one of us. I hope that Americans will wise up and realize voting for change sometimes will get something changed that never should have been. God Bless America and all that are serving or have served protecting her. Semper Fi.

I agree. Everything is getting pushed through so quickly that is scary. So much for checks and balances.

I don't think you have to have served in the military to have respect. He choose the college route as did MANY presidents but that is another issue.

And honestly the only people who are hurting if tricare for life gets the ax is people like us who are eligable. Honestly I don't think most average americans could care less if we get really cheap healthcare after doing 20 plus years. Many look at the pension system and think hey they are already getting check monthly, isn't that enough? I really hope they never ax the way it is now but only time will tell.

Again if anyone has any current info on this topic that would be great. Maybe no news is good news?

I was just curious because I am currently in the enlistment process and at my current civilian job I receive a free plan that convers only me and the co-pays are crazy. In order to cover my husband and son, for the basic plan it would cost me over 250 dollars, a paycheck.

As an active duty service member you have 100% coverage for yourself and family through a military medical facility or Tricare Prime authorized civilian providers at no cost to you and family.

The only thing that you will pay for is premiums and copays for family dental; yours is free.

It doesn't get any better than this.
