You guys have offered so much advice while I get my two squared away in the military.
My daughter is getting evicted and has no where to go. (staying with cousin in housing project in MD and they said she has to leave because she's not on the lease)
I was going to go pick her up in MD and bring her home to NC until a few days before she ships out in Baltimore.
She just called saying her recruiter says she can't leave the area.
Her recruiter has no power over her life until the day she ships. Leaving the area makes life inconvenient for her recruiter, but not impossible. Instead of asking permission from her recruiter, she should be letting him know her plans. Keep in mind that he does have the power to be a jerk and remove her contract, to his own detriment. If he does this, she can walk into any recruiter's office in NC and start the process again.
My source:
My dh was a Navy recruiter from 04-07. Any additional questions, just DM me. Good luck
Thanks, sskkc. I've tried to teach my daughter that - notify-don't ask. Don't use 5 words will only 2 will do. That sort of thing.
She's only 18 and loves to talk-social butterfly. I'm trying to reach her by her cousin's cell to tell her to just let her recruiter know here whereabouts -not to ask.
Thanks! That does make sense, she doesn't have any military orders saying she can't leave the state or anything...just an order to appear at MEPS for shipping out.
You may see what it would take to get her put on the lease with retro-fitted fees. Either way, do everything legally. This is the time to walk a fine line. Enlistment papers are very one-sided and can be cancelled by the military for any minor offense. There is a UCMJ offense called "Article 134" which basically means "...and anything else." In other words, the military has covered all bases.
DH says the recruiter can ask for a "courtesy ship". Then she can ship out from NC, but under the MD contract.
