And to Haydes you may be correct about a few people but to apply blanket coverage to every member of the Marines is more opinion than fact. Pride in serving ones country in a highly traditional military outfit probably fits most better.

Thanks.
I have several friends who are Marines. My granddaughter was in the USMC JROTC for three years. I have several (At least five) "Army Buddies" that were Marines and transferred to the Army. One friend Marine, USAF then Army. A Commander who was a Marine Helicopter Pilot who transferred to the Army. He had Enlisted, Warrant and Commission time.
What I find unusual about these forums is that they many times do not reflect reality. And any persons military experience can be vastly more different than the other millions who have served.

I can't help but think that the comment about "amusing...off the wall things they type" was directed at me LIC. I did not mean for my questions to be amusing, per se, though they were meant in the most lighthearted manner possible considering what was said. They were also serious questions.
I've heard terrible things about military inefficiency, especially among careerists; that everyday is the DMV, "hurry up and wait", that promotion is a single elimination suck-up tournament, etc. You guys know and I don't. 'Tis why I'm here.
Thank you for the PM offer, Rich. If I think of anything more detailed than the general questions I'm throwing out here, I'll be sure to ask.

nope wasn't directed at you,
and here is something from a careerist that has had overwhelming pride and honor for serving his country for over 20 years now. The military is a tremendous opportunity for anyone. I would do it all over again.

I did not get that impression.
I probably lead to that comment because prior to that, I had commented "What I find unusual about these forums is that they many times do not reflect reality."
You're going to find detractors from what JTR has to say. I've carefully read and thought about his multiple postings and find that they track closely with my own observations and experiences. I also got the Succeeding book for my son and he found it useful through his college career and now in his job. FWIW, my son considered ROTC and a military career and decided against it based on discussions he had with Vets. Nearly all regretted having been suckered into the military and most told him things were worse in the military than JTR says. But not by much.
What I'd suggest you do is notice HOW they detract: by calling him names and other fallacies in logic. What you never see is anybody refuting him with a set of facts that runs counter to the JTR arguments.
I'd say that tends to be a pretty big hole in the counter-arguments.
