Good thread/replies. My .02 is that volume is such that sub-forums aren't really "needed" but might be of modest use, eg a "Thinking of Joining?" sub-forum for people to more quickly "zoom in" on that area and also see similar threads grouped vs having to search.
A section that addresses military retirement and the staes that that are tax friendly. I have been finding it very... Extremely difficult if not totally impossible, to find states that you can live in without breaking your bank on military pension.

Agmaker, that'd be a pretty tall order, since everyone's tax situation is different. FWIW, Ohio just eliminated state income tax on military pensions. But I believe that it may be a good idea to pick out places you may want to live and compare the [potential tax liabilities each of those places will have on you. Best of luck!
USAFracer, I think that's a good idea. But probably more effort to maintain & moderate than it's worth. We currently don't have enough service-specific threads to really make it workable. At least right now...
With the presidential race, I think there should be a thread started here about politicians and their stance on veterans pensions, and military issues. Not moved to "politics".
Folks, I've been thinking about ways to make the "Military Life and Issues" forum even better. Here's a couple of ideas for subforums:
1. A separate "Military Personnel/Unit" subforum. I believe that locating people that have served in the military and searching for past and present members of a particular unit is too specialized to lump into the "People Search" forum.
2. I also feel like a "Military Announcements" section might be a good idea to call attention to events and other things that would benefit those in our military family.
What are your thoughts?
I really like the idea about links to specific units.
There are already other websites that try to link together who served on which unit during what time-frame.
IMHO, it is a task that requires a database and is not well suited to a discussion forum.
