I remember when I was a kid in Germany in the early 80s Landstuhl was a wooden hospital and the Army had a closed modern brick hospital at Munchweiler. Landstuhl should have closed a long time ago. I still don't know why the Army would shutter a new brick hospital in favor of an old wooden dilapidated hospital.
Thanks for posting, Balad1! IMHO, not moving the hospital now is only delaying the inevitable. And, certainly, moving the hospital closer to the airlift makes sense.
As we all know there has been and continues to be major consolidation of bases and forces in Europe. I am nostalgic about bases/kasernes closing but realize things change.
You are correct that it only makes sense to have the hospital near the airlift. I was medically evacuated out of Iraq in 07 and the patients had to be bused from Ramstein to Landstuhl. Of course it would have much easier to have the hospital right there at Ramstein. Some of the soldiers were just hanging on so I'm sure it could be important.

yes, life must go on... There was a time that I could've NEVER imagined the 97th General Hospital OR Rhein Main Air base going away. But they're long gone. Along with AAFES Autobahn gas stations...sigh.
Good riddance. I went to their ER some years back and it was a pathetic joke.
