There have been a lot of education benefits over the years. With vaious obligations.
I turned down a program which would have paid all my military pay, and I would be sent to college full time, no military duties, all my college expenses would be paid (including books/papers etc) and I would have to commit more time. Basically two years for each year of college.
There have been various other programs with the various services...
Maybe "many people" have not explained that to you.
