Have any of you ever gotten special license plates that show the branch of service you were in and the military action you served in? If you did, did anyone ever comment on your plates in a positive/negative manner? I just recently got my Navy plates and was just curious. Main reason why I got them was to make it easier to remember my license plate number. There are at least four other employee vehicles the exact same model and color as mine and I have a hard time memorizing my other license plate. This one has only three numbers.
Not all states have them. When moving to Maine I got them on my car with one of my combat medals on it.
Here they are a fairly common sight. [Army, Navy, USMC, or the flying club, as well as POW, purple heart, or any one combat medal]
My wife makes routine trips down to Ct and Md; 2 or 3 times a year. She was once pulled over by a trooper in Ct as the trooper wanted to get a close look at the medal on our license plate.
Once in DC, she told me that on a crowded street, she was waiting to get into a parking spot as a car left it. Another car started to cut her off and leap into the empty parking spot in front of her, but that a pedestrian stepped out in traffic and stopped the guy from cutting her off, he stood there and motioned for her to pull into the parking spot.
Mine has "NAVY" on the left side (as you look at the plate) printed diagonally, under the number and NAVY is the words DESERT STORM, and in the upper right corner is the ribbon for desert storm. Our state has all branches of the military and many different wars or conflicts and includes purple heart and other medals.
but I have a retired stinker. Either way, both options highlight the reason for our statements, Pride and respect to those still actively protecting our freedoms.
I have a retired Army sticker on my rear windshield, and a Disabled Veterans License plate...Once, I went to a Georgia state park...when the attendent saw my DAV plate, he said "I ain't charging a veteran...thanks for your service"..Made me feel special!
