The Pentagon Channel

Not sure if y'all have seen this, but the Secretary of Defense is asking for our (military and family members) input on the DADT repeal (although I'm not sure how). There's a website at the end of the video... but the website doesn't work for me.

Anyway- interesting to see his perspective.

I heard Adm. Mike Mullen talking about this on NPR today. His personal opinion seemed to be for it. Though he emphasized the input from the study would weigh heavy on the final decision,

It was reported ( Washington Week in Review) tonite, that people are mistaken on the purpose of the study.

Martha Raddatz( quite knowledgeable on military issues) stated the study is not to find out if the Military favors it or not, but rather to get the Military's opinion on the best way to implement it.

Those two topics are not the same.

Exactly...input on repeal... in "repeal is going to be difficult because of homosexual discrimination, so we need to add it to our MEO policies"

All I can say its about time to stop the sham of DADT and let gays serve openly~ there are fewer hotheads on this issue than most believe and it would not be hard to implement.

Now if the civilians would just leave it alone all would be well!

^^^^^^^^ that was one thing Adm Mullen commented on, that he has an impression that its a much bigger deal on the civilian side than in the military. He said in the times he he talked with troops he's come across people for and against it, but it was never a chief concern. There was always different issues that were more pressing to troops than DADT.

As soon as they build separate lockers/showering facilities on each and every base, that's OK by me.

You hit upon the concerns of the head military man of the Marine Corps.
He stated he wants to know how to configerate housing on Marine Corps facilities cuz he stated he would not assign open gays to rooms/cubicles with straight males.

He stated he will need lots of money$$$$$$$ to accomplish the living re-arraingements.

This is a done deal no matter what the troops or military leadership want. Gates who was apppointed by the president and servers at his pleasure isn't going to recommend something the president doesn't want.

The politicians are all for this in an election year. To bad most of them have never served in the military.
