So while most people in MKE don't refer to our freeways by their names like say they in Chicago(IKE, Edens, Regan, etc). Some people still do, such as the Rock Freeway, The Lake Freeway, The Lake parkway which is not a freeway but should be. All of our freeways have names which might surprise some. Here is a little refresher course, I94 between downtown and western Waukesha county is...wait for it The "east-west" freeway. I45 from Germantown down to Hales Corners is the Zoo freeway. I94/I43 North/South is called the "north-south" freeway.

I say it's time to give our freeways a better name, something to honor our 3 founders. The Walker freeway, The Kilbourn Freeway, The Juneau freeway and etc. Here is a map of what are freeway were supposed to be with their names and our freeways existing names.

Just throwing it out there for some new suggestions.

I vote you start adding "the" in front of the number instead.

I don't know - what is so wrong with 94, 894, 43 & 45? Everyone already knows the Zoo, Hale, Mitchell & Marquette interchanges -- seems like it works OK, at least to me.

My wife who has lived here for 5+ years now still calls 45, 43 and 41, 45 and she is always mixing it up. I don't know if that is just a women thing that they can't understand directions or the fact that you have a 94, west, east, north, south. 43/94 and then there is just 43 then 41 separates from 45. 43 northbound is that 43 by Glendale or by New Berlin? I can understand all these freeways on how they are numbered and work but to visitors and women, I think names would be better. Plus maybe the state can get some ad money if 94west/east becomes The Rockwell freeway? just a thought.

LOL I keep mixing it up, too. I have no idea about names, though.

Seriously, do you really think it's a gender thing? I know a lot of guys who don't keep track of roadway details like that, and there are plenty of women who can and do master such stuff.

I'm neither a visitor nor a woman, but I have a hazy notion of the 41/45 thing, largely because I just don't go out that way very much. OTOH, I know a couple of women who do know those roads: their careers (sales reps) depend on it.

No of course not, I was just joking.

No, no need to re-invent the wheel. I never had any problem understanding any description using the Nbrs and the named interchanges. The 894 is also known as the Bypass but not much else uses a name. Pretty easy area to get around in....

I thought the three founders were Miller, Pabst, and Schlitz...
