I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of inexpensive apartments west of Milwaukee. My jobs are in Brookfield and Wauwatosa. I'm a bit concerned because the cheapest studio apartments that I can find are in really shady areas of Milwaukee. I always thought that Waukesha was a cheap place to live (and I'm from there so it's a comfortable place for me. ) but I never see apartments advertised except for the new (expensive) ones that they built recently.

Does anyone have any suggestions for places that I could look for rental listings (besides Craigslist and rent.com) or cities in general that I could check out? I was thinking West Allis or Waukesha but anything that I find advertised seems very pricey. I'm probably just going to start driving around looking for "for rent" signs but before I do that I'd just like to make sure I've exhausted all other options.

Thanks!!

I've been on that website too and they seem so expensive...I'm just looking for a cheap, tiny studio. Maybe Waukesha isn't the right area to look for that.

I would say anything under 700 is cheap in the western suburbs.

Thanks for the replies. I guess that my hopes were too high lol I was hoping to find a studio for between 300 and 400 per month but it seems like that won't be happening. Oh well.

I don't agree. Drive around and take numbers off buildings and homes. Under $700 is easy, especially for a one bedroom. Western suburbs are not expensive, matter of fact no where in the Milwaukee area is expensive. Affordable rents are everywhere. High rents in the suburbs are a complete myth. Stay away from large sprawling complexes. They are a complete ripoff. The problem you faces is the lack of studio apartments. They are uncommon in the western suburbs. If your willing to spend around $500 or so you will have no problem. These apartments are plentiful in Pewaukee, Waukesha, Oconomowoc, Sussex, etc. There are all over the place out there. If your really looking for cheap decent place, find a roommate and check out Washington County(Jackson, West Bend, Germantown). You'll find many of these; two bedroom, pool, heat, new construction all for $675. I have no idea how the owners make any money, but if you can find a roommate check out there. Easily the best deals in the Milwaukee area.
