Right now I'm looking for a studio or one bedroom apartment and have three picked out that I'm going to choose from. One of them (the one I like the most) does not come with heat included but does have a thermostat so you can set it yourself. Any ideas on the average cost of monthly heat during winter?

I've also read a few tests about space heater cost and I could run a space heater for 4 hours a day (when I'm home and not sleeping) for about 30-40 dollars extra per day and that would be enough for me but then I have to wonder if the heat is per person or if it is the buildings total divided by the tenants.

Here is what it cost me in a 150yr old building with poor windows. Keep in mind I have a wife that loves the thermo at 84 degrees. 60-90/mo on we energies payment plan to pay an average of the last three months I believe. So in summer I think we pay about 60 for the heat we used in winter. I forget what they call this plan but it is based on a average and spreads the cost of heat over a year instead of say 5 months.

A lot better than I thought it would be, thanks. I'm gonna go with the apartment now.

What part of town?

As for utilities, ours is 1/3 what we've paid in other states we've lived in. 92 a month of heat and gas both in an old building. Not sure why it's so cheap other than it is based on an average and summers don't require 'round the clock a/c for 6 months. On the bill they tell you what it would have cost if it weren't averaged out. Even still, gas in the winter is 1/2 what we used to pay in other places.
