There are some people who don't try, but Milwaukee drivers seem to have an inability to "allow" merging traffic to merge, even when the merging traffic is going exactly the same speed. I guess it's a privilege to be "allowed" in to traffic around here, as opposed to having to slam on the brakes while 6 people in the right lane of traffic blast the horn and tighten up their precious following distance so as not to lose their space to some lowly entering car.

So true about the right lane.

The on-ramp signals are there to moderate traffic entering the freeway. When too many drivers "bunch up" when entering the freeway during peak times, it leads to massive slowdowns. Obviously entering when you are the only one there isn't going to mess up progression but what's the hurry? During peak times you probably aren't going to be going too fast anyway. I don't understand people who get pissed off at slow drivers when everyone is going the same speed.

Relax when you drive and leave room for people to merge or change lanes without quick braking.

Those who don't like it when someone on the ramp doesn't accelerate to match the speeding traffic on the highway, look to see what kind of vehicle is doing this. My company and many others are using GPS tracking and assigning points/penalties to any speeding using this tracking. We get a weekly report showing where/when we exceed the speed limit. 3 violations in a quarter can cost you your job. It's like having a cop on your bumper full time. THAT'S WHY I do not speed any more!

No one says you have to speed - you only need to get up to freeway speed, if the entire system is going faster than speed limit, you are well within the law to stay at speed limit only.

Quite honestly, I cannot afford to lose my job because I was merging into the bypass. The 10 over is usually the case so as I attempt to merge, doing the speed limit requires a larger gap and sometimes you have to wait for that gap. Believe me, in my POV, I'm all over that small hole in traffic at 70 mph in the 55 zone, but not my work truck.

I actually asked my company for a sticker for the back window that stated the vehicle was remotely monitored for speed. People have been flipping me off since this policy came into effect and I slowed down.

amen! I can't stand speed nazis who think they are doing everyone a favor when they just make things less safe by not keeping up with traffic flow. Out here they still have yield signs at onramp entrances. Will never understand that. There are still some old timers that will not move over for merging traffic. Crazy.

Moving over for moving traffic is a courtesy not a rule or requirement. It's on the driver who is merging to either slow down or speed up. What I have found is that if the driver who is merging would simply speed up to the speed of traffic or slow all problems of merging would be avoided. How rude is it to come into a lane and expect everyone else to adjust to your speed as you get up to speed!

This is so true. Typical experience merging onto any MKE highway is someone in the right lane will speed up so you can't merge in front of them, then they will slow back down to 55mph while you pass them on the left.

This guy does a good job explaining and showing how when people fail to let others merge, it slows traffic for all. If people would simply create a larger space between their car & the car ahead of them & let cars merge it would prevent or greatly decrease traffic jams.
