My wife and I are HUGE fans of zoos and we love traveling all over to visit them. Whether it's a return trip to a zoo we've been to at least once, or even moreso with a zoo we are visiting for the first time, we like to try to make it an all-day event if the respective zoo actually offers enough to truly make it an all-day visit. We do tend to whip right through reptile/frog & snake & lizard houses at the zoos we go to, but tend to visit every single other animal in the zoo.

To cut my rambling short, is the Milwaukee Zoo an all-day event (9-5/whatever the zoo hours are, because if there's a Brewers Home game later that night, I would like to go to it) or would we really have to try hard to make a visit there last up until the zoo gates get ready to close?

It depends, if the brewer game is at 7:05 and you will have to tailgate before the brewers game to get the full Brewers experience. Most people get to the Brewers game 3 hours before for tailgating and then do some tailgating after the game as lines to leave are long. I would say the Zoo is an all day event once the park closes you can go straight to the Brewer game but make sure the car is all packed for the game so you don't have to stop for anything. I would just go and get their early and play it by ear, I think you can see the whole zoo by 4.

Being really into zoos, I suppose you could stretch it into an all day thing.
We've only been to the Milwaukee zoo once, and saw most everything in 3 hours or so. I like my zoos in moderation.
Living nearby, we also assumed that if we missed anything, we'd probably get to catch it next time.

we always got thru the Mil zoo in less then a full day, even back when we had a small child in tow. But as noted before if you're able to visit it when you want, then you may not spend the time it really needs to view every exhibit and animal.
One option if you want to kill the whole day seeing animals in the area; there was a Timber wolf society more on the south side of Milwaukee. Granted it's probably been 10 years since we last went there so i wont speak for what it's like now, but even though a tour was shorter we always enjoyed wolves and being able to see them up close was pretty cool. Or be able to hear the howling if a siren went off in the distance....

anyhow just thought i'd add that option.

I disagree. Most people who attend any given game do not arrive 3 hours before the game. In my opinion, tailgating is not required to get the "full Brewers experience".

I haven't been to the zoo in several decades. That said... I don't see why you shouldn't be able to see what you want in the zoo and have enough time to go to a Brewers game.

Since you are a fan of zoos I'll hazard a guess you're more knowledgeable on them than I am, so, you've probably already informed yourself on the Milwaukee County Zoo and its relationship to the bonobos.

I think last time I went to the zoo I was still a child and Sampson the Gorilla was still around. I think the Milwaukee Museum has him stuffed and on display in the Museum now.

I'm not exactly sure how I feel about zoos or stuffing animals. I've really not formed any hard conclusions on the matter. I've not given it much thought either I must admit. I wonder what the general opinion of most veterinarians are?

I've been to the Milwaukee County Zoo MANY times. We've had an annual pass for the past couple of years. I'm a stay-at-home Mom and I like to bring my kids there just to get out of the house and get some Vitamin D.
In my opinion... it should probably only take you around 3-4 hours to see everything. I'm sure you can stretch it out to take longer than that, but if you're in a time crunch, it shouldn't be a problem.
