How is the Bay View area for young families? We found a few renovated homes that we really love, but the school ratings in the immediate area are pretty bad. We will have a 5, 1 and newborn when we move this spring and I'm wondering how easy it is to commute to a better area for Kindergarten.

The private schools will be very good in the area, the public, not so good. Commuting is fairly easy for a big city except when the winter weather comes on. Bay View is a wonderful place for a family.

The public elementary and middle schools are basically okay, but the high school has hit a lot of bumps. Things may be looking up for Bay View High, though, as it is transitioning into more of a neighborhood school with a "STEAM" focus in its curriculum.

Have you considered Fernwood or Downtown Montessori, both located Bay View with great reputations? Both of those public schools offer k-5.

There are many small parks in the area, bike trails nearby, and great access to the lake. Many families have always lived in the area but it seems like many more the last 5 years.

Bay View is great for young families, elementary schools and middle schools are okay but come high school you'll want to find another option. I prefer east of KK Ave or the neighborhood directly south of Humboldt Park anything close to the lake is great too. Thomas Moore high school is right down the block on KK, so that's always an option for high school but tuition is $10,000 a year but like most private schools monthly plans are available. I think they have a elementary school and middle school all right on the campus they have which would really be convenient.

Pretty soon it will be STEAMER - science, technology, engineering, math, exercise, reading. By that point the acronym will have lost any meaning since it describes every subject a student has in school.
