I won't do the math for you, but there are plenty of online websites explaining what you'd pay. Wisconsin and Illinois consistently rank as having the highest average overall tax burdens in the nation.

Wisconsin's personal income tax system consists of five brackets and a top rate of 7.65%. That rate ranks 10th highest among states levying an individual income tax. Wisconsin's state and local income tax collections per person were $1183 in 2012 which ranked 12th highest nationally.
What do you mean by "state and local income tax"? Is there a Milwaukee city income tax as well?

Incidentally, here's a home for sale in Austin that's not in the hottest area of the entire city. $515,000 and $8,889/year in property taxes.

That's still a very nice, safe, desireable area. The great areas of Milwaukee that are both safe and have nice amenities are not going to be cheap.

Everything is relative. In just about any flyover state, 750k should get you a great house in a great hood. The Austin house in the OP is obviously close to downtown.

That Milwaukee house is kind of gaudy tbh.

Love your user name, are you from south Texas?

That looks like North Hyde Park. Great hood. Steal at that price, imo.

I don't have the luxury of moving to the most nice, safe, and desirable area. I simply can't afford anything over $120,000. That's just my reality. At that price point, there are many more options for me in Milwaukee that Austin.

I want to be less than three miles from the city center. The areas that I'm most interested in are Walker's Point, Bayview, Riverwest, and the area around Kosciuszko Park.

My limit is $120,000.

Sure, $750,000 would get me an awesome house almost anywhere, even in Austin. I wouldn't leave if I had that kind of money.

I totally agree. It's also about 6,000 square feet too big and nine or ten times more than I can afford.

No, but I have family there and spent a lot of time there in my youth.

It is north of Hyde Park.

The prices are inflated here. Ten years ago that house would have been half that price. It's not a good time to buy because of the bubble. Besides the fact that I will NEVER be able to afford a house that costs more than $120,000. Just reality.

What neighborhood do you live in?

Also, can you tell me about the neighborhoods in Milwaukee that you think are safe and/or unsafe?

Thanks again,
Jo

Yeah, I grew up in corpus but live in DC now. If you think Austin is expensive, DC is another level.
