Uh-oh. Questions like this can start a brawl....

The Garlic Special Pizza (garlic cream sauce, cheese, sausage, mushrooms) at Transfer is the best pizza in Milwaukee. The crust is thick and chewy, and goes superbly with the sauce and other ingredients.

My favorite tomato-sauce pizzas, though, are from Zaffiro's and Maria's. Both places do the cracker-thin crust that many consider to be "Milwaukee style." Overall, I prefer Maria's crust and sauce, but they use canned mushrooms. Zaffiro's uses fresh mushrooms, and the sausage is a bit tastier. (Maria's is best for atmosphere--the dining area is a sight to behold.)

Lots of other good places out there (Pizza Man, Lisa's, etc.), and many that I haven't tried yet. I've heard many good things about Wy'East. But Transfer has set the bar high for garlic cream and thick crust pizzas, while Zaffiro's and Maria's reign in the world of thin crust / tomato sauce.

I really miss Vedo's in Shorewood since moving away. There's probably better places such as Zaffiro's, but for the money, & the convenience of calling & having a pizza ready in 10 min for pickup, it's hard to beat. The garlic crust is so good. I was back in Milwaukee today. I should have stopped over.

Yes it could start a brawl The garlic pizza at transfer is great but the cheese always falls off in one piece.

I will put it like this:

1. Zaffiro's
2. Maria's...worth the wait
3. Balistreri's
4. A lot of people will put Ned's here but I won't...Transfer
5. A lot of people won't put Pizza Shuttle here...but I will.
6. Filippo's

In Mequon area I highly recommend Sal's in Cedarburg, Leonardo's and one of my new favorites is Downtown Pizza in Grafton and Mequon. They have a great gluten free pizza and I'm not even gluten weird. If Downtown Pizza were located in a trendy part of town...it would be a Top 5 place in the city.

I never understood the attraction with Maria's. People seem to like it, but the one time I tried it I remember saying "never again". Granted that was 25 years ago, so maybe things have improved since then.

If you ask me (and you did), I personally like Pizza Man, Neds's and Ricardo's in Greendale. I will say Pizza Man doesn't seem to be as good as in the original location, but still good.

What kind of pizza are you looking for? Classic, deep-dish, fad sensations...

I enjoy the "fad" pizzas offered at Ian's.

I go for it all thick crust, thin crust or deep dish. Was just looking to try some other places, I find myself going to my regular joints and just looking to mix it up a bit.

I give my loyalty to Mama Mias's! (and Greenfiled location is my preference) That said, I have enjoyed pizza at Balistreri's on S. 68th Street!!
