I would like to know everything about Thiensville, WI. I know it's the "same as Mequon", but I would love to know what makes it not like Mequon, stand apart from it. Local rumors, history, etc.

About

Basically people here really don't consider it to be different, yeah it has a different name and is basically our downtown and has a more walk ability factor and the homes are older and closer together but it's a great area. You get Mequon without Mequon prices.

There is no rivalry or people looking down on people from Thiensville as there are some really nice huge homes in Thiensville as well. It's a very well kept town that is very quiet and has a great little sense of community that host a lot of different community engaging events.

I was told that Garbage Collection is much more easy going in Thiensville than in Mequon where limits are actually enforced.

Is this really a criteria for establishing a place you want to live? Just wondering....

Well, I really favor Thiensville/Mequon over other locations. I just wanted to pick some local rumors and get the idea if there's any major reason to avoid Thiensville and prefer Mequon.

At this point, it's more theoretical, since I am moving into Thiensville regardless. But it's always good to have some local insight.

There is no reason to pick one or the other; other than the city on your license and mail. It's all the same. Mequon feels like you are a lot further out in the metro area than you really are, downside? a lot of places close early here and there are a lot of stay at home moms and retirees which is a good thing in my book. Mequon is fantastic I can't believe I actually considered other places to live.

Well, I truly liked everything about Whitefish Bay until 2020... Now, I don't feel safe there anymore. It is too close to the Milwaukee area, so if there is any major riot - WFB police won't have enough force to prevent crowds from bringing violence into any neighbouring city. And I don't feel like supporting socialistic Milwaukee agenda with my money either...

So, I wanted to move out from Milwaukee County, but where to go... I could go Racine, Waukesha, or Ozaukee. And Ozaukee, especially Mequon cought my personal attention because a) it is not too far from Whitefish Bay and b) all our friends already live in Mequon and c) my kids know a bunch of kids in Mequon due to the extra-cirricular activities they had prior to 2020). So, for me _personally_ Mequon made a lot of sense in that regard. I am not saying that it's better than other fine places, just my kids know more kids in Mequon school rather than in other towns outside of WFB.

And somehow houses in Thiensville cost slightly less than houses in Mequon, while walkability and feel of a town (and not some country side) is obviously is stonger, since Thiensville is Mequon's downtown.... I still wonder where's the catch.

Here's the catch; people drive slow here, stores close early like earlier than anywhere else in the metro area it seems. Shopping we have some but you have to drive 20min to the Falls or Grafton for big box stores. It's very quiet and dark, not a lot happening in terms of nightlife and not very many sidewalks or street lights. All of these sometimes feel like negitives but it depends what you like in life then these might seem like giant positives. I see them as positives. Cedarburg is 7 min away and downtown is 30 so it's not the end of the world.

I can't imagine living with so much unnecessary fear in my life. If Whitefish Bay isn't "safe" anymore, then you should move to rural Wisconsin since you're going to find more crime when you reside in ANY major metropolis - or move to an island in the middle of nowhere. Seriously, and I don't mean to sound rude. The more populous an area is, the more crime there will be.
