Hi all!

I took a new job and will be moving to Milwaukee in January '09 from upstate NY (Rochester). I have never been to Milwaukee so I'm hoping someone can help. I'll be working right downtown but I'd prefer to live in a more suburban area (I need a yard for my LARGE great dane and/or easy access to parks/trails, etc.). I'm planning on getting an apartment for a few months before I look for a house, but I'm open to suggestions for both.

What are the good suburbs/areas that are relatively convenient for my commute, yet will offer me a more suburban area?

How much can I expect to spend for apartments and/or a house in those locations?

Taxes?

Any other information that you think is important...please send it my way.

Thanks for you time!

Shorewood and Whitefish Bay are nice, close to downtown and parks but is pricy. Wauwatosa is also nice, a little farther from downtown but still a pretty quick commute and more affordable than the north shore. Bay view is a neighborhood in Milwaukee and is very nice as well. You have a lot of good choices close to the city (or in the city). Property taxes are high in Milwaukee county but the lower property taxes in other neighboring counties will make your commute downtown longer.
