Granted, that is what the numbers say. It is weird though, no one questions why all of these violent crimes are down, nationally. Perhaps it could just be how the crimes are reported? A robbery becomes a simple theft, an arson is classified as an undetermined origin, etc... fairly easy to effect changes in statistical data.

So far this year violent crime seems to be up, with arson far exceeding that.

I would never put this city on a par with Philly for crime and violence.

I think there are much more dangerous cities out there then Milwaukee. I grew up in Milwaukee and love that city and all the memories before the mid to late 90's that is. I was old enough to discover that if you have certain ethnicity or cultural backgrounds then parts of the city can be very dangerous. In Milwaukee there are some areas ( like most other larger cities) that certain people without street smarts shouldn't go to. I think Milwaukee can yet again be the great city I knew as a young man if they get more good paying jobs, crack down on the gangs ( witch got even worst up to the time I moved in 2007) , and improve the public school system . Don't get me wrong with the Ills i listed many other cities are much worst. All in all its still a good place to be. I hope to move back once I finish college.

As a kid I remember going to Milwaukee with my dad and yelling at some hookers (this would have been mid 80's). Other then that, I really haven't been any further then Miller Park (where I did see homeless pushing shopping carts). I've also been to Racine (Boucher) to buy a car.

I was born and raised on Milwaukee's Eastside (which when talked about on the news is referred to as the North Eastside). I am referring to the slummy Eastside, a little West of RiverWest. It is considered, by insiders to be Holton to MLK & I can say, if you are an outsider, it can be very dangerous for you. If you've ever been to JuneTeenth after 3, you know what I mean. 90% of the people making noise and starting fights live between MLK & Holton. I've also been a delivery guy workin all over the inner city the last 6 years and I can say, there deifinitely is more than enough areas I lock the truck up around.

this post is older but i have to add in

mke is MOSTLY a ghetto and will only grow worse

I moved here a couple years ago, live in RW and here is what I have seen in that time.

Killings about every other day
The YMCA went bankrupt (which iv never seen in a city)
RW is supposed to be some up and coming hip place but its a dump and most ppl iv met seem to have had a gun in their face at some point.
MKE has had the same amount of guns pulled off the street as NY (NY is 10x as big as MKE)
MKE murder rate is double that of San Diego and SD is wayyy bigger
Boston is 2x as big and has 3x less violent crimes
MKE will loose the bucks in 2 years and turn into a 1 sport town (prediction)

just these stats off the top of my head don't paint a very good picture or future for MKE
