I was born and raised in Minnesota and married a South American. She has lived in Minneapolis for a while now, but she has a great opportunity to work in Miami and we will be able to travel to different Central and South American countries. We are considering moving by this fall. We are in our late 20's, we have a puppy, no kids, and we own a rental income property in Minneapolis. I haven't heard any good things about living in Miami.

She is excited to move as she will be closer to her relatives but certainly she will miss Minnesota. Any recommendations as to best places to live in Miami?. what activities a Minnesotan can do during his time free time in Miami? I am used to outdoor activities during the winter and summer time such as camping, deer hunting, ice fishing, biking and all that great stuff...

*~*~*It would be better to ask this in the Miami Forum.*~*~*

Miami is also going to be quite a bit more expensive then Minnesota.

When I was vacationing in Florida I wanted to go to Miami and check out art museums and such, but that didn't happen. I had a friend that went there on vacation and was blown away at all the art museums he went to and such.

I live in St Paul now, but lived in Miami growing up. My personal preference is MN. I prefer the weather (I don't do humidity! And I love all 4 seasons), the countryside, the architecture, the cultural activities, and the relative lack of social tensions compared to Miami. I like many of the activities you cite also (outdoor activities during the winter and summer time such as camping, deer hunting, ice fishing, biking), but was not able to do those things in So FL. However, if you like the beach and boating, that's available year round in FL. Also, the S American culture is cool in some ways (but not so cool in others). If you go to the Miami forum, you'll get a good variety of responses, I am sure. Some people will tell you how much they love it there, others will describe in vivid detail exactly how much they hate it. Sounds like it could be an exciting move for you, what with travel opps to Central and S America. I'd give it a shot, you can always move back.

Long time SFL resident who moved to Msp and have never regretted it. If you must move to Miami (I think you will regret it for many reasons: weather; culture; community; infrastructure; traffic) consider living in Coral Gables, Coconut Grove or on Brickell or on Key Biscayne. For free time- get involved in boating. Good luck.

Thank you all for your feedback. My wife is still waiting to hear from her employer so we are not sure just yet. In the meantime, we are enjoying our time in Minnesota!. If we move, we will definitely look at places in: Brickell, Coral Gables and South Beach.

I think you will regret moving to Miami. The weather is miserable, the cost of living is astronomical, and the culture will be a shock coming from Minnesota. I hope you like hot weather - you'll get plenty of it in Florida.

Also, you may want to try the Miami forum for better answers.

I've been to Miami a few times and I wouldn't want to live there. The one good thing about Miami though is LEBRON JAMES! You can now watch Lebron, Chris Bosh, and Dwayne Wade try and win an NBA champioinship. I feel bad for all my friends in NE Ohio, but I'm pretty excited to see how this works out down there.

Why anyone would wish to live in Miami is beyond me? I have had the misfortune to have to be in that city many times in the past and I can't wait to leave. There are nice places in South Florida, but Miami is not one of them.

Lol, I suppose Miami is terrible but I never been there so I won't judge, but just because someone likes a city you like doesn't make them stupid.

I think Miami is kind of an expensive dump when you get away from the beaches.
