Thanks everyone for the responses (and maps....wow)! I want to move closer to work (I'm in north metro now...NOT progressive for the most part...and I work in downtown Mpls) but don't want to be in the city...need my trees! I do really like White Bear Lake....good vibe there. And I do like Minnetonka...seems liberal leaning (but I guess not?) I like Hopkins too... Hmmmm.....

You spent much time in Minneapolis and St. Paul outside of downtown Minneapolis? There are tons of large mature trees here. Try hanging out in Minneapolis parks...there really is no shortage of green space in the city.

Why would a liberal want to segregate him or herself from others? Isn't diversity of opinion a good thing? Not to mention appropriate checks and balances.

We are all dealing with the negative fallout from not having an appropriate diversity of opinion right now in Washington.

Conservatives are really very nice people.

Yes, the suburbs are "wastelands" to some...but if there are wooded lots and parks and shopping with a little bit of character (not just chain restaurants/strip malls) I am happy.

So to you.

Lo, I wasn't saying you're stupid for not liking city life. My mom grew up on a farm in Redwood County and went to school in Wabasso. my grandma has lived in small towns(>1000 People) her whole life just about. My oldest sister lives in Buffalo and is perfectly happy, and my older cousin is always trying to get her to move closer to Minneapolis but she doesn't want too. Im about the only person in my family who wants to live in big cities. Id love to live in Minneapolis or Chicago. I will eventually move to Minneapolis, im still young and still need to go to school and everything, so I will have plenty of time to live in big cities.

I think perhaps the point was that many neighborhoods in Minneapolis have a lot of trees. My relatives and friends from elsewhere always comment on how green the city is (well, if not visiting in the winter!) and my son used to talk about the "tree tunnels." Dutch Elm has killed off many of the grand old elms, but it's still a pretty tree-filled city. I will admit, though, that while it is definitely green and filled with trees, it is definitely not rural in character.

I know some extremely liberal people in Minnetonka, so they're definitely there! It's not so close to DT Minneapolis, though. I'm not as familiar with the political climate of somewhere like Golden Valley (although know very liberal people who live there, too), but perhaps GV or the parts of Minneapolis near Wirth Park would be a good fit; no shortage of trees and vast expanses of forest areas, yet still very close to downtown Minneapolis.
