White Bear Lake, in my opinion. A nice small-town feel to it, real neighborhoods, and a heckuva lot of charm.

If we extend it to the river, I'd keep going down MN-96 to Stillwater.

Great...so five posts in someone flames Woodbury. Usually it takes about two or three posts in a thread like this for that to happen. There's a lot of crap I could say about multiple suburbs (Maplewood, Oakdale, Eden Prairie, Columbia Heights, Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Robbinsdale, Crystal, NO Hope, Plymouth, Richfield, the Minnetonka area, Edina, and Lakeville), areas of Minneapolis (Near North, Jordan, Phillips, and Whittier), and St. Paul (North End, Frogtown, and Downtown), but I decide to be the better man and keep it to myself!

Writing off all of Minneapolis north of 394 as a craphole is akin to saying that all of Woodbury is "sterile, to plain, no culture, etc." So please, think before you all type up a bunch of crap about Woodbury as many people proudly live here and some will even admit to you, including myself, that the city does lack in the excitement and bustle of a city from time to time. What would be even better, though, is if some of you people would actually turn off the Mac, put on some birkenstocks (over socks of course), smart looking glasses and thrift store clothes, get in your Priuses, and take a drive out to Woodbury to see that it really does have variety in housing stock (quite a few century-old farmhouses to a 50's-era neighborhood to neighborhoods that feel like Roseville and Shoreview to newer neighborhoods as well).

I agree.

Woodbury does have some nice places, but just nothing sticks out like Stillwater and White Bear Lake.

And even places like Dellwood, Mahtomedi have enough ruralness and lakes and nice homes and schools to compete with Woodbury too.

Why is it that everyone I meet from Woodbury refer to the place as 'Woodhood' or 'Hoodbury'?

I can't speak from Experience as that suburb is about as far away from my end of town as you can get

^ It's just because some of the kids there are kind of annoying and think they're in the ghetto.
