Thanks for the stats Radical...

I'm against a merger, too. People feel there is too much distinct history in each city. Besides, 'Twin Cities' would kind of lose its luster.

I feel some some small suburbs bordering the cities can merge/annex, nothing more than that.

This topic has been beaten into the ground a thousand times already.

Yeah, I know, but it's a fun topic to discuss, and obviously it won't happen any time soon. I think Richfield, Brooklyn Center and St. Louis Park should annex with MPLS, and Roseville, Maplewood and Columbia Heights should annex with St. Paul.

Those annexations would add considerable population to the cities, which is very nice. I like all the small suburbs, kinda makes it feel bigger with so many cities all around, but at the same time, I would like Minneapolis and St. Paul to be more recognized on the national/world scale.

I'm sincerely hoping this is sarcasm. Isn't this intersection home to a horrific scene of big-box stores, parking lots, and gridlock?

Nope. Go visit, say Cty. 42 and Galaxie Ave. It's crazy dense for a suburb! I'm very, very impressed actually, and I bet no suburb competes.

Oh wow! Now my eyes have been opened! I see it now! It's still not as dense, though, as County Road 42 @ County Road 31. Now THAT is urban planning at its finest!

This is my post from another thread:

Well if you were to make it into one giant city...

Minneapolis + St. Paul + Bloomington + Richfield (Cannot annex Bloomington w/o Richfield)

You would have a city of nearly 800,000 and 160 square miles....

Similar to Austin, TX (790,000 and 300 sq miles), Indianapolis, IN (810,000 and 350 sq miles) San Fransico, CA (810,000 and 230 sq miles)

The only place that would really rival would be San Jose, CA with 965,000 and 178 sq miles.

What would it be called?

St. Minnebloomingfield?

There you have it.

St. Minnebloomingfield, Minnesota. The newest city in America.

795,000 people. 160 square miles.
