We had never used a debit card prior to getting this account so I was concerned about the 12 transactions, especially since we have a great credit card that gives 5% back on gas/pharmacy/grocery and 1.5% back on everything else. We've found that if we use if for lunches and non-regular purchases it ends up being around 15 a month (2 of us using the card). If it were just one of us, we wouldn't make it to the required 12 monthly.
I use my debit card for everything I can. I just had to reorder checks, which I can do online-the last time I ordered checks was in 2006-probably when we moved here and had to get our new address on our checks. .

I use the debit card a lot also. The biggest problem with it is I now have less day to day accountability in my checking, as opposed to using written checks.

I'm with TCF. It seems like it was around this time last year that TCF was making a push to charge monthly fees on their checking accounts.

Does anybody know what happened to that? I'm thinking they thought twice about it following the backlash. I know I'll be moving over to a credit union as soon as that comes down.
