I don't need to have street cred, but i don't want to live where my old clunker is out of place either

Yes, I agree with the Nokomis or Lake Hiawatha areas. Safe and decent neighborhoods, these are. But don't give up on the Global Market condos just yet. Would be awesome to live up there and then come down to hang out in all of that ambiance that is in the Market.

Actually I used to work close to General Mills and then commuted east on 394 to get home. The trick which MOST people don't do when getting on 94 east from 394 east is that one must take the Dunwoody exit ( right before downtown) People are SHEEP. They line up for over a mile and then wait to get on 94 east when all you need to do is take the Dunwoody exit - head north on Hennepin for about a half mile til it takes you to 94 east. Trust me, if you work at General Mills, you will want to do this if heading east. Waiting in that long line EVERY day will drive you insane. Just follow the frontage roads alongside 394 on the south side to lead you up to where Dunwoody exit comes. It is right after Penn Avenue.

Anyway, it doesn't matter if you live in the Global Market condos. People are complaining because of the exit off of 394 to 94. Use my detour and you will be home in no time.

I use to drive all the way over to Highland Park in St Paul when I did this commute ( 12 miles from work). It was bearable, so doesn't matter where you are in S Mpls, it will be closer than the drive I did.

So remember this. MOST PEOPLE ARE SHEEP OR LEMMINGS ON THE ROAD AND OFTEN WON'T LOOK FOR A DETOUR. I used to shake my head in disbelief on most days when I wizzed on by taking that Dunwoody exit for a head-start onto 94 East.

Correction to the above. Actually, I stayed off of 394 east at all times because of the congestion every night. I always used the south frontage road that runs parallel to 394 east. Going west, 394 was never a problem in the mornings. Drove that route for about 7 years.

BTW, his shortcut works about 1/2 the time. The minutes you save getting off at Dunwoody are often eaten up by stopped traffic in front of the Walker Arts Center. As with antthing else in traffic, YMMV...

I was raised by wolves.

Really, half the time huh. Don't think so. I worked out that way for 7 years and no way would I have put up with that commute if the traffic was horrible for that long.
