Has anyone moved from Texas to Minnesota? How do the schools compare? What is the process for schools in Minnesota-by that I mean in Texas if you move into a subdivision you have to go to the public school the area is zoned to. In Minnesota if you move to a subdivision does that mean your kids can go to the nearby school or do they have to apply to get in?

The neighborhood you live in will have a school that your child can go to without applying.

You can apply to open enroll to a different district however you are not guaranteed a spot. Many people, including myself, have done that to send their kids to a public school that isn't the neighborhood school. When open enrolled you provide the transportation.

Also, most districts have magnet schools which you can apply to. Those often do provide transportation. Plus there's some integrated districts that will provide transportation from district to district.

There's also charter schools that are public. They may provide bussing depending on where you're at. You apply to those.
