How clean Minneapolis is! CNBC ranks it the 6th cleanest city in the world. Only one other US city, Honolulu, made the list.

I'd say that's a pretty nice title to have. Minnesotans, is this ranking supported or contraindicated by your own personal observations/experience?

I hear that all of the time. Frankly, I don't know why other cities are so dirty! Any time I see somebody deliberately throw trash on the ground my reaction is anger. I don't understand why somebody would want to make their living area dirty!

Yes, I would agree. It's the cleanest city we've lived in. I always assumed that the winters had something to do with it; some of the trash disintegrates or gets washed away. That would be true of other winter cities, too, of course. I see the study looked at things like chemicals, so perhaps the local economy here just wasn't as polluting, and as far as air pollution and smog it's not a basin unlike some cities, so whatever is produced doesn't just hang over us.

Agreed. Minneapolis is the cleanest city I've ever lived in, as well.

Perhaps it's because the climate doesn't attract as many homeless people. While Boulder was "clean", there was random carts and ripped up blankets in the park due to homelessness...

Just a thought?

When I was in Atlanta, yuck, same with the Orlando area, when we got back to Minneapolis it was incredible how much cleaner it was.

The Twin Cities are certainly cleaner, in general, than the Atlanta metro, but many of the areas down here aren't bad at all...

I just think that the Scandanavian culture is very tidy and organzied, resulting in very nice upkeep that's turned into just the way it is. The seasons definitely wash away grime and deteriorrate trash.

Once I was working at a convenience store and a lady from Chicago came in and was like "I cannot believe how clean it is here"

Yes, its a very clean city - even the downtown areas. In fact, considering how many people are in the skyways, particularly in winter, the cleanliness is impressive.

Part of our good fortune stems from the prairie winds blowing down from Canada. All that nasty air pollution winds up in Wisconsin.
