Hello, I will be in Minneapolis for about a week and would like to visit White Bear Lake while in town. What's the best way to get there other than by car? Public transport, taxi, etc.? Thanks.

easiest way would be by taxi and probably cost about $60 inc tip

if you are looking to visit WBL for the lake scene you probably couldn't find a less impressive lake in the metro and go so out of your way to do so.

You can take a Metro Transit bus there for far cheaper, but it'll take probably somewhere between an hour and 10 minutes to an hour and a half. You would take a bus from Minneapolis to St. Paul, and then the 265 bus will drop you off right along the lake. Go to maps.google.com and type in your starting point and ending point and you can get public transit directions there.

$60 seems about right (check Taxi Fare Finder Any US City - Estimate Your Taxi Cab Fare, Cost and Rates), and that's one way. For that money, you might as well rent a car. In fact, you'd save serious cash renting a car.

As mentioned, bus is available but is dependent on how much time you want to spend in transit. I'm not sure if 3 hours round trip is the best investment to get some water and nature.
