I will be starting work at General Mills this coming July and I noticed that the drive from my apartment will only be about 6.5 miles one way. I will have to take MN-100 and I-394 to and from work and I was just wondering about traffic. When i was visiting Minneapolis I took I-94 E and W to and from St. Paul from Downtown Minneapolis and the traffic was brutal during rush hour. I think my drive on I-394 will only be about 1.5-2 miles one way but traffic when I was there during rush hour was literally bumper to bumper with an average speed of 5 mph. Does anyone know how bad this commute is? Thanks in advance.

Have you done this commute more than once? Was there an accident or something that was backing up traffic? It is unusual in the Twin Cities to be stuck in non-moving traffic like that. Also, there are probably some back roads you can take, especially since you live so close.

You'll be going against traffic. I doubt 394 is busy. I was taking 55 in the AM working very close to General Mills and it was nothing. There's also city streets you could easily take to work.

Where are you coming from in St. Louis Park? If it were me, I'd take something like Louisiana or Xenia north to 394, then 394 west to General Mills. I understand where 100 can be a pain, but 394 should not be an issue in the direction you're going. Tell me your approximate starting place and I'll give you a good route to take.

I take 100 north to 394 west every day through SLP and Golden Valley. I do three over the speed limit and I am the slowest person on the road during the time as I go against traffic.

Going home is another story. Some days traffic doesn't move getting from 394 back onto 100, and other days I am doing the speed limit again, so I take my back roads without upsetting local residents.

I overthink stuff all the time, so I am qualified to say that you are really overthinking this.

Was going to say, Golden Valley butts right up to SLP, it will take 15 minutes in a blizzard.

Agree w/ Sonata on overthinking....

Hey guys thanks for the replies. I might well be overthinking this so I apologize! I didn't think it would be too bad but I just wanted to make sure.
