I think that tells more about peoples' paranoia than it does about the actual gang problem. Although I recognize there is some gang activity, I'm pretty convinced it is way overblown. Just because you see a small group of black kids hanging out on a street corner does not automatically mean they are in a gang and likely about to mug somebody or make a drug transaction.

And no link, no proof. That's the way it works. This is pretty much standard: when you offer an opinion, state that's what it is. If you offer something as a fact, back it up. It's not that hard.

They could have done that for a variety of reasons, probably messing with you with it being Bloomington. In all honesty, you seeing a bunch of young black kids gave off that "vibe" that happens all too often when a white person see more than one black person even if you weren't trying to. Because of that vibe, they probably messed with you and had a laugh afterward.
