I found Mpls to be too car dependent, from my experience. Can you please tell me if some people can live a car free and enjoy a hipster lifestyle, in the Twin Cities.

I live in Minneapolis without a car. I don't live a "hipster lifestyle" and don't ever wish to do so, but many others do.

The Cities are very hipster-oriented, you will not be out of place.

Lots of people in Minneapolis car-free. It's definitely a city where it's nice to have a car, but it isn't necessary. I did it while I was doing my first year at the University of Minnesota. Bus service was frequent enough that I only faced minor inconveniences.

Pick the right place to live and plan accordingly (walking, bus, lightrail) and you'll be fine. You sound like someone who wants to stay out of suburbia anyway...

No. This isn't NYC or Europe.

You could get by if you had to but I wouldn't live here without a car. To be honest there are only a handful of a cities in the U.S. where I would consider living 100% car-less, and Minneapolis is not one of them.

Not sure what you mean by hipster, but, I got rid of my car ten years ago and don't miss it. I get everywhere I need to go and, on the rare occasion I do need a car, I just rent one or give a friend some gas money. Living in Minneapolis without a car is possible and MUCH cheaper! I pay $85 a month for a bus pass. Parking alone at my apartment complex is almost that!

To be fair, Americans give Europe far too much credit for being car-free. Most people in Europe still own cars as only the largest cities truly provide the amenities for a car-free lifestyle. That said, I imagine it's easier in a lot of Europe, but plenty of cities run infrequent services, shut down at night, etc.
