Hi!
I'm a 39 year old Sales Manager that currently lives in Minneapolis and now that both my kids are college bound, I'm ready to get out of the cold!!
I want this to be my last move, so there's a lot of pressure to make sure I'm happy with my new city..
Some of the big things on my wish list:
Warm climate (not too hot or cold)
Great cost of living
Progressive young professional crowd
Decent entertainment
Great shopping/newer malls & resturants, etc
Beautiful greenery, flowers, lakes, hills etc.
Friendly people
Newer construction (homes, apartments, businesses, etc)
Great night life

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!

Thanks every1~

I would definitely encourage you to look in to Greenville, SC. It has everything you have on your list. I have lived abroad, CA, NY, TX, GA & SC. If I my son was older and I no longer needed the fantastic MN schools, I would move back there in a heartbeat.

It has minor league hockey & baseball teams, fantastic venue for concerts/events - BI-LO CENTER
musicals & plays - Peace Center for the Performing Arts ? Greenville SC
Beautiful downtown area Downtown Greenville
Check out this link to other images of the town:
greenville sc - Google Search

Greenville is located in the Northwest corner of the state and is nicknamed the Upstate. It is hot in the summer but not unbearably so like some other areas of the south. It is a 3 hour drive to Hilton Head Island which has wonderful beaches & golf.

I have to second Danielle - there are probably many choices, but Austin was the first one that came to mind. California generally will have a high cost of living; the Carolinas may have some good choices - the research triangle area may be a good second choice; I would also consider Virginia - those are off the top of my head - good luck to you! Let us know where you end up and how you like it!!!

Austin, TX was my first thought.

Other possibilities:

Albuquerque, NM
Boulder, CO
Asheville, NC
Charlottesville, VA

A progressive oriented place with a reasonable cost of living is tough in a sunbelt location, as it rules out California.

North Carolina sounds like it would be perfect, maybe Asheville? or Raleigh?

You might post your criteria in the forums of other states that seem to be likely candidates, and ask them which areas of their state would meet your needs.

If you don't mind a smaller town and a little bit more heat in the summer, Tallahassee would be nice. Big university (Florida State) and state government presence creating a much more stable economy than the rest of Florida.

I am mostly throwing the city in the hat so you'll change places with me so I can go to Minneapolis

The Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC area seems like the perfect fit for you. Highly educated and professional (with a COL that's very reasonable), decent nightlife options, and a climate that's mild year-round---snowfalls are paltry compared to these parts. The politics are center-left, and the geography is filled with trees, hills, lakes, and rivers galore, making the area a very beautiful place to live, work, and play. Check it out sometime!!

Just so you know, MN is not actually full, so you can come without finding someone else to vacate a spot for you!

You do need to find 4 native Minnesotans to vouch for the reservedness of your character, submit proof of ownership of sufficient winter clothing, and perform well in the blinded lefse taste test, though. We do have our standards, afterall.
