I never understood how it's better to get 20%-45% of the tax deduction than 100% of the trade-in value? Can some tax guru explain this?

I keep hearing Kars for Kids in the Cities offering the full tax incentive and a three day two night vacation voucher...who knows what that includes but perhaps it is a hotel voucher or something at the least.

We will likely donate our car because it is unsafe to drive; we'd feel bad giving it to someone knowing that a thousand dollars of repairs were needed before it was a risk to someone's life, but at a KBB value of $3,000 still, we figure we can donate it, get the tax break, and let people learn by fixing it up.

A great place to donate your vehicle to is The Courage Center.

Most places can accept a car donation. St. Therese of New Hope is a senior housing organization that I have experience with. They will process the car for you. You can either opt for a $500 value or wait until the car sells at auction and use the actual sale price as your value--that will be the same at any organization.

The donation process is really easy; call your local favorite nonprofit and ask if they have a car donation program. I would guess that most of the large ones will be able to help you. We donated to our local NPR station (in another state, but it works the same here), and it was incredibly easy. They later sent us the auction papers giving specific dollar amount for tax purposes.

i ended up donating to newgate. i like there program of training low income people and those who are trying to rehabilitate themselves back to society.

at least with newgate i know the car will be used and fixed by kids who need the experience to be a mechanic.

took like 10 minutes, piece o cake

Courage Center, Cars for Courage.

donate my car - Cars for Courage

But I'm with West336, why would you get 40% of what you could really get by just selling it!?
