Stuff to do (my favorites):

Restaurants:
Hazel's NE on Johnson St.
Sample Room on Marshall, good for drinks too
Chimborazo on Central Ave
Erte

Bars:
331 Club for live music and drinks www.331.mn
Psycho Suzi's tiki bar on Marshall
Gasthof's German place has a fun Octoberfest outside

Other stuff:
If you're into art, Art a Whirl is in the spring and artists' galleries are open, and it's fun to wander around and check out the art, esp in the Northrup Kind Bldg, which is full of studios.

Heights Theater on Central (a little north in Coumbia Heights) is a fun place to see a movie with a DQ next door for ice cream in summer

-Ice skating/hockey/broomball on the outdoor rinks in Windom Park
-Jim Lupient Water park in summer (outdoors) if you don't mind a lot of kids
-If you're into softball/baseball/kickball, there are a lot of athletic fields in NE that have leagues in summer.
-Walk to Deming Heights Park on the hill to watch the sunset.
-When we have more snow it's fun to go sledding on the big hill at Columbia Park Golf Course
-Walking on trails around Columbia Park and St. Anthony Parkway
-If you like to bike, it's easy to bike to downtown and get on trails around the river. I don't like to bike on Central (too busy). I bike on residential streets to Hennepin Ave, then cut over to Marcy Holmes n'hood and south to the Stone Arch bridge to get to downtown and the St. Anthony Main area, which has some bars and restaurants.

What do you like to do? Are you new to Minneapolis or just new to NE Mpls?

Sweet, thanks! I'll look into all of those.

Personally, I like jogging, biking, basketball, cooking, things of that sort. I'm new to MPLS and NE MPLS. Anyone know of any cooking classes or anything of that sort?

I, too, expect to be biking to get around in the cities and will probably hug residential streets entirely. I see there are plenty between Hennepin and Central.

For cooking classes, check out Kitchen Window on Hennepin Ave in Uptown. Also, Mpls Community Ed has cooking classes. Minneapolis Community Education

My wife and I looked for houses immediately around there. Nice houses, but didn't like the neighborhood. But there are many neighborhoods not far away we easily c ould have bought in. Don't miss the Holy Land Deli, just north of the intersection. One of Minneapolis' best places for Middle Eastern food. Up Central is the Heights Theater that shows a more select kind of movies. Central Ave has a number of good Indian restaurants, especially in Fridley. The Eastside Co-op one block north not only has lots of local food, they also are the only place at this time where you can recycle plastic that the city doesn't take. Oh, and I like The Crescent Moon which serves Afghani food. I'd definitely be eating there weekly if we still lived Northeast.
