I can tell you the difference between Ohio and Minnesota is, Buckeyechick (especially Columbus, OH). In Minnesota, Ohio would be pronounced "OOh-HI-OOh", and in Columbus, they say it like "OeW-hei-Oh"..........if that makes any sense. If you have a tendency to pick up others' accents you definitely are susceptible to picking up the MN accent -- it's kind of contagious!

P.S. I don't have much of an accent but if I hang around Minnesotans or Chicagoans (my two truer homes) long enough I'll start to pick up some of the twang.

There isn't much of a difference, but you can still tell. The OOOO's and AHHH's pin point it. Have someone from Minnesota say 'bag' or 'don't go'.

^hahaha, "don't go"....that'd take 5 seconds for a native -- "doooooonnnttt gooooooo".

Sometimes hearing that sound is akin to fingernails on a chalkboard for me!(the only emoticon that's even close to the face I was looking for)

I'm with ya. I didn't realize how harsh the MN accent is until I move out of state. The Chicago native accents aren't all too different in terms of speed but the "ohs" of MN are the biggest difference.

But now when I go home to MN or talk to friends on the phone from there I almost cringe at certain things they say and hope that I was never that bad.
