Apartments.com - Community Glance

We are moving to MN at the begining of october, and we have no way of getting out there and viewing apartments so we have to get one sight unseen Does anyone know this apartment block?

More importantly, anyone familiar with this neighborhood? is it safe? what is the park like? Is it a family park or a hangout park?

Many thanks!

Battle Creek used to be a nicer area of the East Side of St. Paul but not so much any more. Battle Creek Park itself isn't a place you really want to be after dark.

Are you working in St. Paul? THere are plenty of other places that are easy commutes to St. Paul that would be better choices.

Thanks for that - My husband is working in downtown st paul, we have a budget of $800, we need a 2-bed appt in a nice, family freindly neighboorhood, we have an 18-month old, and a dog. I'd prefer nearer downtown than further away, but being in a nice place is more important. Any recommendations for where to look gratefully recived!

$800 for a nice two bedroom is going to be tough to find. I don't know what you consider "far" or "near" but Inver Grove Heighs has a lot of apartment complexes and it is about 10 minutes to downtown St. Paul from there assuming you are driving. It is a nice, family community and they have a great ECFE (early childhood program) for you and your child. The dog might be an issue too--not a lot of apartments take dogs. Maybe one of the realtors on this board can point you to a house to rent that is for sale in the general area too.

There are surely places nearer to downtown than Inver Grove with $800 apartments.

Not for a 2-bedroom. Or at least nowhere I'd feel comfortable recommending.

We could deal with one bedroom. Any suggestions for a better area?

In Saint Paul proper, Highland Park, Mac-Groveland are nice, kid-friendly areas. I would look in those. There is alot of commerical activity on Ford Parkway and Cleveland. Safe and nicely maintained. The area is alot of older bungalows from the teens and twenties along with some higher density stuff.

Actually the Battle Creek area is very nice. I don't know about the park after dark, but it's a very large park and dense with trees and foliage.

If you google "rent apartments in the Twin Cities" it will lead you to sites which show what you get for your money. I can't remember the exact link but something like apartments.com or forrent.com or apartmentfinder.com or rent.com
