I am seriously considering purchasing a home in Minnetrista -- closer to Chanhassen, right by the Lake Minnetonka Regional Park. I am new to the area, however, and am concerned that the commute to my workplace in Minnetonka will be difficult. Google says 28 minutes, and I can deal with that. But route 7 appears to be a 2 lane (in each direction) road with many stoplights, and I figure it could get fairly clogged up in rush hour. I am more concerned about the AM commute (likely 830 or so start time) than the PM (as I likely wouldn't leave until 530 or 700). Does anyone reading this have experience or knowledge they can share?

Thank you!

I used to commute on 7 from Excelsior to 494 a few years ago. It would get busy in the morning, but I don't remember it being too terrible most of the time. It usually moved fairly well when the lights were green from what I remember.

You might be able to save some time and traffic frustration by taking CR 44 to CR 110 to CR 15 to HWY12/I-394. The speed limits are lower, but you will encounter less stop lights, lighter daily traffic that moves constantly most of the way, and probably be more relaxed(I often find bumper to bumper traffic and stop lights with long lines to be stressful). It is more scenic driving around Lake Minnetonka too.

Google Maps estimates 30 minutes from Lake Minnetonka Regional Park to Ridgedale Mall using this route. You would have to adjust it for your exact locations.

The western suburbs are a fricken nightmare. If you want to spend Minnetrista level money look at Woodbury. You will be driving west in the morning so the sun not in your eyes, makes a huge difference in traffic. 90% of the traffic jams are the western suburb idiots smashing into each other because they can't text, apply lipstick and look into the sun at the same time.

Go EAST young man/woman.

Oh my goodness, you sure don't want to commute thru St Paul AND Minneapolis to and from work! I think you missed the part where the OP said they work in Minnetonka!
