Hi!

I am moving from Spain to MN in a little bit more than a month. I was living in St. Louis Park for a year and I really loved it. My new job is located in Windom (Minneapolis). I am really concern about driving during snow storms and with ice, I have never done it before. Some people have told me that Windom it is not a good neighborhood to live in. I really enjoy my time in St. Louis Park but maybe I should look for a closer place to rent my apartment. Any sugestions with the area? (I am a young single woman and I don't want to spent more than $1,000 in rent and utilities).

Thanks!!

Windom is fine. Some parts have some industry, and right by the freeway it's loud, but overall it's a decent place to live. Boring, but safe. There are some apartment complexes and buildings on Lyndale.

Depending on where exactly your job is located, you could expand your options (and still not drive in winter) if you could take the bus; one of the 4 bus routes goes down Lyndale, for example (although there's currently construction on Lyndale that is complicating the commute a bit, but that should be done later this year); there are a LOT of very nice vintage apartment buildings along Bryant Avenue once you get north of 50th Street) and on nearby streets. That area is very safe, is walking distance to Lake Harriet, and has a bit more going on than Windom itself. Or, if you will be driving, just don't want to do long distances, that's a very quick drive to Windom and doesn't require any freeways. (you could also easily bike, or even walk.)

Also pretty close if by car or bike (don't think there's an easy direct bus), the area around 48th and Chicago is nice. It's a commercial node with a nice variety of restaurants, bars, a movie theater, little shops, coffee place, etc.

Thank you very much! My job is located by Wentworth Ave S with 58th St. Lyndale seems to be a good option
